Object Theatre (Puppetry Day)

OBJECT THEATRE

A day of puppetry, with films, artist commissions, tours and more. Find out about how artists respond to puppetry.

Radar presents new commissions, films and symposia that explore the concept of object theatre. While commonly understood to refer to puppetry the programme will offers four different representations of object theatre from puppetry, to narrative sculpture to the idea of the autonomous machine. The impetus for the programme was research currently being undertaken by Dan Watt (Loughborough) and Sean Myatt (Nottingham Trent), who have developed a network that will further our understanding of the performing object.

The four new commissions will inhabit a variety of spaces within the Loughborough University campus, from traditional black box spaces to outdoor routes and trails. Each of the works investigates in some way the role of the object within art and theatre, examining at times the lack of obvious human presence in the works. The symposium will explore specific areas of research around object theatre, and will include papers by artists and academics; it will be chaired by Dan Watt. (Symposium 9th March)
